Free Hugs

After no one was at the airport to greet him when returning home, one lonely guys desire for a hug goes global. Track the countries that have been hugged in your IWB?

Mark your calendars! Juan Mann declared that International Free Hugs Day would fall on the first Saturday following June 30 each year.

The next one (2009) will be held on July 4th!!!

I wanted to do this for an IWB page
it totally was awe inspiring to see it in the video

Great Min! Do it! Any thoughts on what you might do? How could you do your own "free hug" type campaign? In this season of politically motivated campaigns, what can you create for the pure good will of (wo)man? Perhaps compare and contrast it to Obama and McCain's campaigns! PS It is great to see you joined our blog. Thanks!

Melody, when making this blog I learned that we could put a gadget on that would tell us each day what "holiday" it is! Do you get some type of notice via email about each day? Are these national or international holidays? Who creates them? If you could create one what would it be?

I've never had a blog before, so I have not heard of this holiday gadget. However, I have many sources for learning of these holidays. As I've mentioned before, one place is wellcat.com (you should check it out). Another is actually, wikipedia. Just search up a date (i.e. September 19) click on 'holidays and observations' and it will show a bunch of different holidays (i.e. International Talk Like a Pirate Day), often including a link to a page describing the holiday.

When I learn about a holiday, I add it as an event into my Yahoo! calendar, which provides a feature that allows you to set a notice x number of days before the event. I usually set it for 1 day, so that I know a holiday right before it comes up! I have a public version of the calendar at http://calendar.yahoo.com/melwoanzen
It's best view by month.

I observe both national and international holidays. According to holidayinsights.com, to make a holiday 'national' it needs to be proclaimed by a president or go threw a long and difficult process in which it is put in congressional records.

March 26th is 'Make Your Own Holiday Day', which appears to be created by the Wellness Permission League. While I haven't come up with a crazy holiday idea yet, I think that the Monday after Labor Day should be 'Get Your Teachers Tissue Boxes Day'. Cold season starts coming in and by then I can figure out which teachers need tissue. I gave two boxes to Forsgren and two to Marcketti.

I could keep going on and on about holidays, but I'll save a bit for later, or my IWB.

I was wondering if I could use the picture of this page and do some sort of collage for my IWB with different styles of the words "Free Hugs" and with different languages and incorporating it into my IWB

LOL I love your after Labor Day holiday idea! This will be a fun theme to do. How can you get your holiday out in @ least our community next year? Any of the news channels would love this as a spin on back to school and publicizing IB. By then you would have a good grasp on studio projects that you could include. You can also contact Channel 12. I am just throwing this out there. I am so excited for you! Who knows it could go GLOBAL!
