Yee Peng Lanna festival
Balloon Festival in Taunggyi
In light of our paper making experience I want to share paper fire balloons with you. Many Asian cultures celebrate with paper fire balloons. This tradition is absolutely beautiful!

'Paper Fire Balloons', interesting but logical name. While I was in Taiwan, we built things just like the ones in the first video, but we called them 'Sky Lanterns'. I think they're the same thing. The idea is that you write a bunch of wishes on the paper and then light it and send it up (to the heavens). I'll have to show you a picture some time. (http://gallery.me.com/melodyj#100033 I'll have more pix up later).
It's really cool to listen to the other languages on the videos. the balloons in the second video are also rather impressive.

Tell me more about the Pagoda peice!
The one on my gallery? What do you want to know?
My other Sky Lantern pix are up in the CYC 2007 folder; 3651 and 3653 show my group writing down wishes (actually, we ran out of things to wish for so we ended up doodling on it and putting down whatever we like)
The pagoda piece was somewhat inspired by PICT4190 in CYC2007.
Your lantern is wonderful! I also really like the Platteville 6. What a great shot. Thanks for sharing!
